At least 37 people have been killed in a wave of Israeli airstrikes on southern Gaza. This is according to Gaza’s civil defence agency. The majority of casualties occurred in al-Mawasi, an area previously designated by Israel as a ‘safe zone’ for displaced civilians.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of devastation, with tents ablaze following the explosions. Among the dead are said to be women and children. Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal stated that two missiles struck makeshift shelters near Khan Younis, killing 16 people and injuring 23 more.
