Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has announced the creation of a new security corridor across Gaza, aimed at pressuring Hamas. The move is expected to isolate Rafah from the rest of the territory, where Israel has ordered evacuations.
This follows remarks by Israel’s defence minister that Israeli forces will take control of large parts of Gaza, expanding so-called security zones. Meanwhile, a wave of Israeli airstrikes has killed more than 40 Palestinians, nearly half of them women and children, according to Palestinian health officials.
