Italian Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani Dies at 91

Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91 in Milan, his company announced on Thursday. A statement from the Armani Group described him as the brand’s “creator, founder and tireless driving force” who worked until his final days.

Armani, one of the most recognisable names in global fashion, missed Milan Fashion Week in June 2025 while recovering from an illness, but had been planning a major event this month to mark the 50th anniversary of his fashion house.

He rose to international prominence in the late 1970s with relaxed, unstructured tailoring that redefined Italian ready-to-wear style. His designs became a fixture in executive offices and on Hollywood red carpets, worn by stars in both classic suits and glamorous gowns.

Over five decades, Armani built an empire worth more than $10bn, spanning clothing, accessories, perfumes, cosmetics, furnishings and more, securing his place among the world’s top 200 billionaires.
