The 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards celebrated Nollywood’s excellence on November 2, at Lagos’s Balmoral Convention Centre. Top Nigerian films like ‘Jagun Jagun’, ‘Mai Martaba’, and ‘The Weekend’ showcased the power and artistry of African cinema.
Co-hosted by veteran Nollywood star Segun Arinze and Ghanaian actress Joselyn Dumas, the event highlighted Nollywood’s global relevance. ‘The Weekend’, directed by Daniel Oriahi, won Best Film for both Nigeria and Africa, recognizing its storytelling and production quality.
Femi Adebayo, honoured as Best Supporting Actor, shone in the historical thriller ‘Jagun Jagun’, which also claimed Achievement Awards for visual effects and make-up. Chaired by filmmaker Dorothee Wenner, the 12-member jury underscored a standout year for African filmmaking.
