Veteran Nigerian actress Joke Silva has disclosed that the decision to retain her maiden name after marrying fellow actor Olu Jacobs was made with her husband’s full support—and on his advice.
Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, Silva, 62, said Jacobs encouraged her to maintain her professional identity at a time when she was just beginning to establish her career in the film industry.
According to the Nollywood icon, her husband recognised early on the value of personal branding and felt that altering her name midstream could undermine the recognition she was steadily building.
Silva’s remarks offer a rare glimpse into the couple’s longstanding partnership, often cited as one of Nollywood’s most enduring.
The pair, married for over three decades, are two of the most respected figures in Nigerian theatre and film.
