Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has urged Lucky Okodeh, a former caretaker chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, to consider an out-of-court settlement in his N2 billion lawsuit against the Nigerian Army.
Okodeh had filed a suit against the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff, demanding compensation after his photograph was published among individuals declared wanted for the killing of 17 soldiers in Delta State. The former chairman claims the publication defamed him.
During court proceedings, Justice Nyako advised both parties to explore an amicable resolution to the dispute.

The case stems from a March 14, 2024, military operation in the Okuama community of Delta State, where 17 soldiers were killed. In response, the Defence Headquarters declared eight individuals wanted, including Okodeh, whose photograph was listed among the suspects under the name Akevwru Omotegbono.
