Justice M.S. Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a directive for the release of popular singer Speed Darlington, escalating tensions over his continued detention.
In a ruling delivered on Monday, 6 January, the court instructed the Inspector General of Police and the Nigerian Police Force to either formally charge the artist, popularly known as Akpi, within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.

The decision follows a previous court order granting the musician bail two weeks ago, after he had spent nearly a month in custody. Despite the bail directive, the Nigerian Police Force has reportedly failed to comply, prolonging his detention.
The latest ruling amplifies concerns over adherence to judicial orders and the rule of law in Nigeria.
