The Kano State Police Command has impounded 104 motorcycles and 68 tricycles and arrested several operators for violating the ban on commercial passenger motorcycles in the state metropolis. The operation, coordinated with various security agencies, aims to enforce restrictions on motorcycle use and the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. tricycle ban.
Police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa said the arrests were carried out within a week, with all suspects charged to court for prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended public cooperation and praised the inter-agency collaboration, including the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA).
The motorcycle and tricycle regulations, enforced in December 2025, apply to the state’s eight metropolitan local government areas, including Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Ungogo, Fagge, and Kumbotso. Violators face penalties including six months imprisonment, fines of up to ₦10,000, and forfeiture of their vehicles.
