Katsina Stakeholders Call for New Strategy Against Banditry

APC Sweeps All 34 LGAs in Katsina Local Elections

Stakeholders from Katsina State have urged the federal and state governments to adopt new strategies to end banditry. Meeting in Abuja under the Katsina Security Community Initiative, they said continued killings, abductions, and displacement showed that current measures have failed.

The coordinator of the initiative, Dr Bashir Kurfi, warned that more than half of Katsina’s local government areas are under the control of bandits, forcing many local officials to abandon their homes. He stressed the need for a community-driven response, combining military action with dialogue.

While sharing his experience, the Chairman of Safana Local Government, Abdullahi Sani Safana said peace talks with bandits had reduced attacks in his area, while Babangoda Abdullahi of Kurfi Local Government warned that some community members are aiding criminals with supplies and intelligence.

Meanwhile, lawmakers from Katsina have met with the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff in Abuja. They announced that the Nigerian Army will establish a battalion in Malumfashi Local Government to strengthen security, while also urging President Bola Tinubu to deploy more troops and resources to the state.
