Kayode Egbetokun resigns as IGP

Kayode Egbetokun has resigned as Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police. According to a source in the Presidency, he stepped down on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, following a directive from the president. Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Mr Egbetokun as the 22nd Inspector General of Police on 19 June 2023, and the Nigeria Police Council confirmed his substantive appointment on 31 October 2023.
