A former member of the Labour Party, Kenneth Okonkwo, has called on President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, and former Vice President Atiiku Abubakar to step aside from contesting in the next presidential election.

Speaking in an interview monitored by Radio Now’s news desk, Mr. Okonkwo, a former spokesman for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign team emphasized that the trio should give way for other candidates, citing the need for new faces in Nigeria’s politics.

“Anarchy is the absence of authority or non-recognition of authority. Now, in Labour Party, there is no authority that is governing the Labour Party. I don’t think I have read any court’s decision that said Abure is the authentic national chairman. What happened is that all the courts they went to, because they knew that there was no convention, they always avoid the issue of convention. They will come to court and say, Court, we need to have our agents in Ondo. You have to give us power. Anarchy is precluding us from fielding our agents. If we don’t have the agents, we are doomed.”

He also ruled out returning to the All Progressives Congress, unless the party changes its ways and starts working in the best interest of Nigeria.

“Why did I leave APC in the first place? They were a party that was moving Nigeria in the wrong direction, security-wise, economy-wise, and I waited to see whether if there is a new government, whether when there is a change of power, we could see a new lease. Then Tinugu came in and then decided to choose a fellow Muslim to become his vice president, in addition to the security problem, in addition to the economic problem. So Tinugu now displayed that he is a man that is cantacross to the spirit of diversity. I was telling my Muslim brothers that it’s not about religious sentiments. It’s about that a man who does not recognize our religious diversity will not recognize our ethnic diversity. That is simply a man who is cantacross power. He just gave posts to the north without power and gave power to his people.”

Speaking on his next course of action, Kenneth Okonkwo revealed he is still undecided on which party to join.

“For now, I have not made a decision on the party I want to go in. And if I do not see any party that has clear direction on the welfare of the Nigerian people, I will sit down and take it up in prayers. Labour Party cannot even rescue itself, so how can it talk about rescuing Nigeria? I have just told you. Coalition. That is the best alternative that the opposition people would have to take.”
