Kidnapped Anambra Lawmaker's Body Discovered After Weeks of Investigation

The decomposed body of Anambra State House of Assembly member, Justice Azuka, has been discovered on the 2nd Niger Bridge. The lawmaker, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1, had been kidnapped on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunabankpa [Ugwu-na-ba-nkpa]  Road in Inland Town, Onitsha. The remains were located by a combined security team after weeks of investigation.

Azuka’s kidnapping led to a high-level manhunt, culminating in the arrest of several suspects in Abuja late Wednesday. Authorities say the suspects eventually led police to the location where they had abandoned the lawmaker’s body. Anambra State Police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the discovery but noted that details of the incident remain limited.

Authorities have yet to release further information, but police operatives are on the ground at the scene. The investigation continues, with more details expected in due course.

This incident marks the second high-profile kidnapping and murder of an Anambra lawmaker in recent years. In 2022, Okey Okoye, a member from Aguata, was abducted and beheaded, with his body later found near the Nnobi area.
