The Kogi State government has prohibited rallies and public gatherings, citing what it calls “credible security reports.”
State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said the decision was taken to prevent potential unrest that could destabilise the state. The announcement comes ahead of a planned homecoming event for Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Tuesday.
Mr Fanwo said that while the state enjoyed a peaceful Sallah celebration, emerging threats had raised concerns. Intelligence reports, he said, suggested plans to stage violent demonstrations under the guise of political or religious movements.

The government has also ordered that individuals entering the state with security convoys must obtain clearance from the relevant agencies.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has been at the centre of recent political controversy, facing a six-month Senate suspension and a recall petition from constituents. She has also accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, allegations he has denied.
