In a renewed plea for assistance, the Kogi State Government has once again urged the Federal Government and international donor organisations to provide immediate support as devastating floods have displaced over 200 communities.

During a press briefing held in Koton Karfe, Kogi Local Government, on Monday, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, sounded the alarm over an impending humanitarian crisis, with nearly two million residents left homeless.

Mr Fanwo highlighted the dire situation, noting that 9 out of the state’s 21 Local Government Areas have been severely impacted. The state government has set up 68 IDP camps, but these are inadequate to shelter the vast number of displaced individuals. He added that critical infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, has been destroyed in the deluge.

Among the hardest-hit areas are Kogi, Lokoja, Adavi, Ofu, Ajaokuta, Idah, and Ibaji. The commissioner’s message was clear; without urgent intervention, the state is on the brink of a major disaster.
