A High Court in Lokoja has granted a stay of execution on its earlier judgment removing Tijani Ahmed-Anaje as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland. The ruling, issued by Justice Umar Salisu, temporarily halts his February 3 order barring Ahmed-Anaje from acting as the traditional ruler.
Ahmed-Anaje was appointed in January 2024 by former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello, but his selection faced legal challenges from Daudu Adeku-Ojiah, Hussain Yusuf, and Abdulrahaam Suberu. The challengers argued that due process, as outlined in the 2006 Kogi State Chiefs Law, was not followed.

In December 2024, the court sided with the plaintiffs, ordering Ahmed-Anaje’s removal pending a fresh selection by Ebiraland’s kingmakers. However, the latest decision now pauses his removal, setting the stage for further legal proceedings. The case underscores ongoing tensions over traditional rulership in the state.
