Authorities in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State have imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew across all 11 wards following rising security threats along the area’s borders. The curfew runs from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, effective from December 2, and will remain in place until further notice.
The LGA Chairman, Hon. Edibo Peter Mark, announced the directive on Wednesday, citing the need to prevent the influx of suspicious individuals and to address internal tensions linked to upcoming local government elections. He also ordered 24-hour security surveillance, including strict stop-and-search operations at all border points.
All public gatherings—such as Moulud events, church vigils and festivals—have been suspended. Fireworks are also banned, while mosque and church services must be conducted briefly.
