Konga Demands 60% Royalties from Burna Boy over ‘Update’

The artiste Konga has demanded a 60% share of earnings from Burna Boy’s 2025 single ‘Update’, alleging that his lyrics and rhythm were sampled without permission. He made the claim on the Hits Don’t Lie podcast.

Konga said Burna Boy did not approach him to resolve the matter, despite what he described as earlier attempts at an amicable settlement. He compared the situation to Burna Boy’s 2022 song ‘Last Last’, where he said American singer Toni Braxton received 60% royalties for a sample.

He added that he had restrained his lawyers from filing a lawsuit out of respect for Burna Boy and his contribution to promoting African music globally. Konga also claimed he had previously accused Burna Boy of referencing him in the ‘Sungba’ remix featuring Asake.

Konga further alleged that after Burna Boy declined a request to collaborate on a remix of his song ‘Kabakaba’, he went on to sample the ‘Sungba’ remix without permission.
