The Russian government has rejected allegations that opposition figure Alexey Navalny was poisoned with a rare toxin. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the claims as unfounded.
The allegations were reported by foreign investigators who cited scientific findings. Both were highlighted in a joint statement signed by the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. Russian officials said the accusations lack credible evidence and are politically motivated.
In 2020, Navalny survived an initial poisoning incident that sparked international concern. His case has remained a focal point in diplomatic tensions between Moscow and Western governments, particularly after his death in a prison colony in 2024, where he was serving a 19-year sentence for “extremism”.
