KWAM 1 Petitions Ogun Government Over Awujale Nomination Exercise

Veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, has petitioned the Ogun State Executive Council, seeking the nullification of the Awujale of Ijebuland nomination exercise held on January 12, 2026. He alleged that he and other eligible members of the Fusengbuwa ruling house were unlawfully excluded from the process.

In the petition submitted through his lawyers, KWAM 1 said entry to the nomination meeting at Bisrod Hall in Ijebu-Ode was restricted by armed security personnel to individuals carrying special delegate cards issued by a faction of the ruling house. He argued that the arrangement violated the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State 2021 and the Awujale chieftaincy declaration, which require inclusive participation.

The petition followed the death of the former Awujale of Ijebuland, Sikiru Adetona, in July 2025 after a 65-year reign, with the Fusengbuwa ruling house next in line to nominate candidates. It also referenced a January 6, 2026 letter from the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area directing that a full statutory meeting be held without any delegate system.

KWAM 1 and other petitioners described the exercise as procedurally defective, null and void, warning that failure to address the matter could lead to protracted litigation and unrest. They urged the Ogun State Government to intervene to protect the integrity of the Awujale selection process.
