Kwankwaso Accuses FG of Resource Bias Toward South

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of sidelining the northern region in favour of the South in the distribution of federal resources. Speaking at the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment, Kwankwaso warned that uneven development could worsen insecurity and poverty in the country.

Kwankwaso, who was the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in 2023, said most of the national budget appears to be skewed towards southern infrastructure projects, while the North continues to suffer from poor road networks and underdevelopment. He cited his recent experience travelling by road from Abuja to Kano, describing the journey as “hellish” due to the poor state of the roads.

He said the government’s focus on projects like the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, while northern roads remain in disrepair, paints a picture of imbalance. Kwankwaso called on the federal government to reconsider its approach, stressing the importance of inclusive development for national stability.

The former minister urged the Tinubu administration to “change for the better” and demonstrate through action that it represents all Nigerians, not just one part of the country. He said equitable distribution of scarce national resources is essential to tackling the root causes of insecurity and economic hardship in the North.
