Kwara State Polytechnic to Reopen After Student Protest Closure

The Kwara State Government has approved the reopening of Kwara State Polytechnic for academic and administrative work from Monday, March 2, 2026. The institution had been closed for several weeks following student protests triggered by its use as a temporary National Youth Service Corps orientation camp while academic activities were ongoing.

The approval for reopening was contained in a memo signed by the Acting Registrar, Halimat Garba, and communicated to staff and students. The memo urged all members of the polytechnic community to resume activities promptly on the stated date.

The closure followed a directive by the state governor after tensions escalated on campus during demonstrations against the decision to host corps members at the facility. The situation had led to disruptions and concerns about campus safety, prompting the management to grant a break and halt normal operations.

In announcing the reopening, the management thanked students and staff for their cooperation during the closure and expressed hope for a productive completion of the 2025/2026 academic session.
