The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the Labour Party (LP) has no grounds to call for the sack of its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, over the outcome of the 2023 general election.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi said the reasons the LP gave to justify the call are not only illogical, but also ridiculous.
According to Mr Oyekanmi, it is not within the LP’s jurisdiction to demand for the dismissal and prosecution of the INEC Chairman over the outcome of an election in which the party fielded candidates.

He described the party’s decision to hold press conferences on the matter as strange, particularly because it is challenging the outcome of the presidential election in court.
Mr. Oyekanmi described the action as subjudice.
The LP had on Thursday demanded for a forensic investigation of INEC’s expenditure for the 2023 general election, saying Nigerians deserve to know the details.
