A Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) boat caught fire on Thursday morning at the Ipakodo terminal in Ikorodu while transporting 19 passengers to Victoria Island. The incident occurred around 6 a.m., prompting an emergency response.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, though four passengers sustained minor injuries and are receiving medical treatment.

LASWA stated that its emergency response team swiftly intervened, working alongside LAGFERRY and other first responders to contain the situation. A preliminary investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
Authorities have assured the public that safety remains a priority, with measures being reviewed to prevent future incidents. This comes months after a similar fire outbreak at the Ikorodu loading point in November 2023.
