The Lagos State House of Assembly has firmly denied reports suggesting that 27 of its members have defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Labour Party (LP).
In a statement on Wednesday, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Ogundipe Olukayode, dismissed the claims as ‘false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.’

He further alleged that the rumours were designed to “sow discord and confusion within the Assembly and among the good people of Lagos State.”
The denial comes amid heightened political tensions in the state. On Monday, a contingent of armed security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, DSS, was seen at the Assembly complex. The presence of security operatives has drawn criticism in some quarters, though the DSS maintains they were deployed at the request of the Acting Clerk of the House.
