The Lagos State House of Assembly resumed plenary today, nearly a month after the impeachment of its former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed over allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office. Obasa, who did not attend the session, was replaced by Mojisola Meranda as Speaker. Approximately 36 lawmakers were present during the plenary.
Abiodun Tobun, the representative for Epe Constituency I, commended the Federal Government’s economic policies and noted that insecurity in Lagos had been significantly reduced. He also moved a motion requesting the House to send a letter of commendation to the presidency for its impactful initiatives.

Other lawmakers, including Gbolahan Yishawu of Eti-Osa Constituency II, praised various initiatives introduced by the Federal Government. Speaker Mojisola Meranda added her voice, highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in improving the economy, including support for small-scale businesses and growing stock market capitalisation.
Despite the leadership crisis that has recently rocked the Assembly, no issues related to the former Speaker were raised in today’s plenary, suggesting that the matter may now be resolved. The session focused primarily on national development and the government’s progress in addressing key concerns.
