The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning against illegal recycling and scavenging in unlicensed facilities across the state.
The directive, issued through the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), cautions property owners, agents, and private occupants against indiscriminate sorting, dumping, storage, and trading of recyclable waste, both within their premises and in surrounding public spaces.

LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, emphasised that such activities not only diminish the city’s visual appeal but also infringe on property rights and pose significant environmental risks.
Dr Gbadegesin urged residents and stakeholders to utilise only licensed recycling facilities and registered waste collectors to ensure efficient waste management. He further encouraged the public to report violations through LAWMA’s official channels.
