Lagos commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab links flooding to high tides

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab, has urged residents of the state not to panic amid the flood caused by Wednesday’s heavy downpour.

Speaking via a post he shared on his X handle on Wednesday, the commissioner assured the public that the situation is temporary and will subside within 1-2 hours.

He also attributed the flooding around Olopo Meji inward 3rd Mainland to the intense and prolonged rainfall, combined with a high tidal level in the lagoon.

He further added that as the tidal level recedes, the rainwater will be able to discharge into the lagoon, alleviating the flooding. In a subsequent update, he disclosed that a team from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources (EFAG), has been deployed to monitor and clear the flash flood.
