A Lagos Mobile Court has sentenced two commercial bus drivers to three months’ imprisonment for assaulting operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA. The convicts were found guilty of participating in a coordinated mob attack on LASTMA officials while they were carrying out their duties on Victoria Island.
The incident occurred on Monday near Mekwen Bridge, inward Flag House, when LASTMA personnel apprehended a commercial minibus for obstruction. In retaliation, the driver reportedly mobilised fellow operators in two other vehicles, leading to a violent assault on the officers.

Security agents swiftly intervened and arrested two of the attackers, who were subsequently arraigned before the mobile court in Oshodi. The presiding magistrate handed down the custodial sentence without the option of a fine.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, welcomed the court’s verdict, describing it as a warning to defiant commercial drivers. He reaffirmed the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on attacks against traffic personnel and reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and safety on Lagos roads.
