The Lagos State Government has defended the demolition of buildings at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo, saying the exercise was driven by technical concerns rather than ethnic bias. Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olumide Oluyinka, said the move was consistent with similar enforcement carried out in other parts of the state.
He explained that the Trade Fair Management worsened matters by leasing land to private developers who constructed buildings without proper approval. Many of the structures, he noted, violated planning regulations, including shops built dangerously close to road kerbs.

According to the commissioner, defaulters had been given ample time to comply with regulations before action was taken. He insisted that the exercise was in the interest of public safety and part of broader efforts to ensure orderliness in urban development across Lagos State.
