Lagos Develops Policy to Unlock Blue Economy Potential

The Lagos State Government says it is formulating a detailed policy to fully harness its blue economy, describing it as a future cornerstone of economic growth.

Speaking at the opening of a study tour by Senior Executive Course 57 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, likened Lagos’s aquatic assets to crude oil, calling them a strategic economic resource.

She highlighted the state’s coastal geography as an advantage rather than a limitation, affirming the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to unlocking maritime and inland waterway opportunities.

Salu-Hundeyin said engagements with NIPSS were timely, adding that insights from previous visits had directly influenced government policy. She also praised the competence of Lagos civil servants, describing them as among the most capable in the country.
