The Lagos State Government says it has paid more than ₦70.19 billion in accrued pension rights to nearly 21,000 retirees since Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu assumed office in 2019.
According to the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, the state disbursed an additional ₦15.1 billion in pension arrears to over 6,000 retirees between May 2024 and March 2025.
Beneficiaries include retirees from the civil service, Local Government, State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, and state parastatals.

Mr Agoro made the disclosure during the 2025 ministerial briefing in Ikeja, noting that pension reforms remain a core priority under the Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES+ Agenda.
He added that a “pay-as-you-go” model has now been adopted, with ₦4 billion disbursed across recent retirement bond ceremonies.
