Lagos mobile court remands six over assault on LASTMA officials

The Lagos State Mobile Courts have remanded six out of seven suspects over the assault on officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority during a midnight enforcement operation along Airport Road in Lagos. The suspects were accused of attacking LASTMA officers and personnel from other government agencies.

The enforcement exercise was led by the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in collaboration with security operatives, the Kick Against Indiscipline Corps, the Lagos State Task Force and LASTMA field officers. The operation followed complaints from the Nigerian Airport Authority over persistent illegal activities around its facilities.

LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, said the authority reported cases of harassment, intimidation and theft allegedly carried out by miscreants and illegal commercial bus operators at the airport. He said officers exercised restraint despite provocation, leading to the arrest of seven suspects.

The suspects were arraigned on four-count charges on Tuesday, with one granted bail while six were remanded in custody. The case has been adjourned until February 19, 2026, as the Lagos State Government reiterated its resolve to protect public infrastructure and warned that violence and lawlessness would be met with the full weight of the law.
