The Lagos State Government has ordered an investigation into allegations of medical negligence following the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the 21-month-old son of Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie. The toddler died on Wednesday after an emergency during a medical procedure at Euracare Hospital in Lagos.
Adichie accused the hospital of criminal negligence, alleging that her son’s condition worsened rapidly after initially showing cold-like symptoms. In a statement, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Health, Kemi Ogunyemi, said the government has begun a probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

She said the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency has been directed to carry out a thorough and independent investigation, working with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and other regulators. Ogunyemi said the findings will be made public, while Euracare Hospital has expressed sympathy to the family and confirmed it has launched an internal investigation.
