The Nigerian film industry turned its spotlight on “The Herd” on Sunday night as the much-anticipated thriller premiered at Filmhouse Cinemas, Lagos.
Directed by acclaimed actor Daniel Etim Effiong and produced by Toritori Films in partnership with FilmOne Studios, the film attracted a broad mix of Nollywood and Kannywood personalities, alongside an enthusiastic audience of film lovers and media figures.
Set around a wedding that spirals into chaos, “The Herd” examines themes of love, betrayal and the fragile fabric of national unity. Its ensemble cast features Genoveva Umeh, Kunle Remi, Deyemi Okanlawon, Mercy Aigbe, Adedimeji Lateef, Norbert Young, Tina Mba, and Amal Umar.

Speaking at the event, Etim Effiong said the story reflects his conviction that Nigeria’s challenges demand collective understanding and shared purpose. Veteran producer Bolanle Austen-Peters, founder of Terra Academy, hailed his directorial debut, describing Effiong as a disciplined and visionary talent capable of redefining Nollywood storytelling.
Executive producer Efe Ejukorlem, founder of Escape, said the project was conceived to provoke reflection on the nation’s shared destiny, noting that its narrative resonates with Nigerians both at home and abroad.
The evening featured a lively red carpet, media engagements, and an exclusive screening that ended with sustained applause for the film’s tension, message and performances.
