Lagos Speaker’s Son Confirmed as Agege Council Chairman

Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been confirmed as the substantive chairman of Agege Local Government. His confirmation followed the resignation of former chairman Tunde Azeez, who stepped down on Wednesday due to health challenges.

Azeez, who had been on medical leave since shortly after his inauguration in July, formally tendered his resignation letter, which was read during plenary by the council leader, Adeshina Haruna. Lawmakers at the session unanimously approved Abdul-Ganiyu’s elevation, citing the need to ensure administrative continuity.

Council members noted that Obasa had effectively managed mobilisation and community engagement while serving in an acting capacity. They said the confirmation would prevent a leadership vacuum and sustain development efforts across the local government.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman pledged to strengthen partnerships with community stakeholders and consolidate ongoing projects to improve service delivery.
