The Lagos State Government has announced plans to fully enforce the removal of shanties and stalls under Apongbon Bridge and along the Savage/Elegbata/Bombata drainage channel in Lagos Island from Tuesday.
Speaking during an inspection at Ebute Ero, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, said that the enforcement follows the expiration of a 48-hour quit notice issued to traders last week.
Mr Wahab revealed that officials revisited the area to assess compliance, noting that vital drainage channels, Bombata/Olusi and Alagbafo, have been obstructed by makeshift shops and stalls, leading to severe blockages.

The commissioner stressed that the illegal structures pose environmental and safety risks, warning that enforcement would be swift and thorough to restore the functionality of these critical drainage systems.
He urged residents and traders to cooperate with the government’s efforts to prevent flooding and maintain public infrastructure.
