Lagos To Pay N85,000 Minimum Wage, Says Governor Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that the state will implement a new minimum wage of N85,000 for its workers, surpassing the Federal Government’s approved N70,000 by an additional N15,000.

During a recent interview monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk, Governor Sanwo-Olu clarified that the decision was not driven by competition with other states but rather by Lagos’ financial capacity to support the increase.

The governor also noted that the state had already adjusted workers’ salaries earlier this year and expressed his ambition to raise the minimum wage even further, aiming for N100,000 by January 2025.

It is worth recalling that President Bola Tinubu signed the N70,000 minimum wage bill into law in July, following extensive negotiations between government officials, labour unions, and the private sector.
