Lagos State has been named Africa’s most start-up-friendly city in a global ranking by Multipolitan, an international mobility platform headquartered in Singapore. The city topped the continent in the Startup Friendly Cities Index 2026, which measures how attractive major cities are to founders, investors and innovators seeking environments that support high-impact start-ups.
According to the report, the index uses a two-stage methodology, assessing national conditions such as venture capital activity, deal inclusiveness and the presence of unicorn companies, before comparing cities across indicators including talent attraction, start-up density, digital connectivity, quality of life and business agility. Multipolitan said Lagos scores highly in founder density, market size and sector diversity, and already operates like a high-potential global start-up hub.
