The Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced that six additional train sets will soon be deployed to enhance the capacity of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT). This move is aimed at improving service delivery on the Blue and Red Lines and supporting the economic growth of the state.
LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communication, Kolawole Ojelabi, confirmed on Friday that the new train sets, which have passed factory acceptance tests, are scheduled for shipment from China. They will be deployed to both the Blue and Red Lines to boost operations and increase the number of daily trips.

Ojelabi explained that the six train sets will contribute to more frequent trips along the Blue Line, particularly as the second phase of the Blue Line, extending from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, nears completion. The 14-kilometre phase two is expected to be finished by the first quarter of 2027, with passenger services set to begin shortly thereafter.
The Blue Line currently runs 72 trips daily, with plans for an increase in services following the arrival of the new trains. Similarly, the Red Line, which currently operates eight trips daily, will also see a rise in services. These additions are part of ongoing efforts to expand and improve Lagos’ rail infrastructure.
