The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has warned motorists and institutions against the unauthorised use of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes across Lagos State. The agency’s Head of Corporate Communication, Kolawole Ojelabi, said the dedicated lanes are reserved strictly for BRT buses and other approved vehicles operating within the regulated transport system.
Ojelabi explained that only authorised vehicles, including franchised buses, are permitted to use the lanes under normal conditions. He added that emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire service trucks may only access the lanes when responding to emergencies, in line with established guidelines.
The agency expressed concern over increasing violations by unauthorised users, including some military personnel, government vehicles, and private motorists. It warned that such actions disrupt traffic flow, compromise safety, and undermine the efficiency of the BRT system designed to improve urban mobility.

LAMATA said enforcement will be intensified to address the violations, with offenders facing penalties such as fines and possible vehicle impoundment. The authority urged all road users to comply with regulations to ensure order, safety, and efficiency on Lagos roads.
