LASTMA Impounds 27 Vehicles Over Safety Violations

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has impounded 27 commercial and private vehicles for what it described as grave violations of traffic and safety regulations across the state.

In a statement on Thursday, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said the vehicles were seized during an early morning enforcement exercise aimed at curbing vehicular overloading, following repeated warnings issued through public sensitisation campaigns.

LASTMA said the operation was prompted by growing concerns over the risks posed by overloaded vehicles on major roads and inner city routes, noting that assessments revealed motorists transporting bulky goods and other items in ways that obstruct visibility and compromise vehicle stability.

The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described overloading as a serious breach of Lagos State traffic laws and warned that it endangers both vehicle occupants and other road users, urging motorists to comply strictly with stipulated loading limits and safety standards.
