LASU Calls Off Strike, Activities to Resume August 13

The Senate of Lagos State University has called off its industrial action, paving the way for the resumption of academic and social activities from Wednesday 13 August. The decision followed a meeting last Thursday between the university’s Joint Action Committee and the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

A statement from Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, said students will be allowed back into hostels on campuses in Ojo, Ikeja and Epe from the same date. The Senate directed that the suspended 2024/2025 second semester examinations begin on Monday 18 August,  after reviewing updates from the Vice-Chancellor on the outcome of the talks with the state government.

The industrial action began on 31 July after the Joint Action Committee of staff unions declared a strike. On 2 August, the Senate held a virtual meeting, suspending all academic and social activities until the dispute was resolved.
