The Lagos State House of Assembly has advanced the bill to establish the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy to its second reading.
During plenary, the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, referred the bill to the committee on education for further deliberation. The bill has received unanimous support from lawmakers, who highlighted its potential to enhance the state’s educational focus.
The Deputy Majority Leader, Adedamola Kasunmu, expressed optimism that the academy will advance the state’s educational initiatives and foster future generations of leaders.

Honourable Gbolahan Yishawu, who described the bill as a testament to the government’s commitment to cultivating leaders with advanced knowledge and problem-solving abilities, also cautioned against elitist practices and marginalisation in the candidate registration process when the bill becomes law.
