Lawmakers Suspend Sitting, Pay Condolence Visit After Senator’s Death

National Assembly Approves 14-Year Jail Term for Lecturers Convicted of Sexual Harassment

The Senate on Tuesday suspended plenary in honour of Senator Okechukwu Ezea of Enugu North, who died earlier in the day. Shortly after adopting the day’s votes and proceedings, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion to halt legislative business, in line with parliamentary tradition. The motion was seconded by Deputy Minority Leader Olalere Oyewumi.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed members to observe a minute’s silence before announcing that buses were available to convey senators on a condolence visit to the late lawmaker’s family. Ezea had served as vice chairman of the committees on Cooperation and Integration in Africa/NEPAD and Culture and Creative Economy.
