Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris says captain Granit Xhaka will remain central to the team’s plans after returning from injury. Xhaka was restored to the starting line-up at the weekend as Sunderland ended a run of defeats with a 1-1 draw away at Bournemouth. The manager confirmed ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Leeds that the midfielder will continue to play a leading role for the Black Cats.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Le Bris described Xhaka as a player who improves those around him. He said the captain helps to set the tone on the pitch and provides leadership that benefits the squad. According to the Sunderland boss, having experienced and influential players available strengthens the team’s overall performance.
Sunderland now face a quick turnaround as they travel to Elland Road to take on Leeds United. Le Bris said he does not expect any fresh injury concerns for the short trip to West Yorkshire.
