LIRS Mandates Tax Return Filing by January 31 to Avoid Penalties
Mr. Ayodele Subair, Executive Chairman of LIRS

The Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has issued a directive requiring all companies in the state to file their annual tax returns by 31st January or face statutory penalties for noncompliance.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Mr Ayodele Subair, emphasized that this requirement aligns with the provisions of the Personal Income Tax Act, Cap P8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 (as amended).

Mr Subair highlighted that meeting this deadline is a legal obligation for employers, warning that failure to comply will attract sanctions, including financial penalties, as stipulated by law.

The chairman also urged companies to use the LIRS e-Tax platform for their submissions, describing it as a secure and user-friendly system. He clarified that manual submissions are no longer accepted, and all filings must be completed exclusively through the e-Tax portal, accessible at etax.lirs.net.
