Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, says recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri were carried out using tricycles locally known as “Keke NAPEP”. He made the assertion following explosions on Monday that killed 23 people and injured 108 others at a market, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital gate, and the Post Office flyover.
Ndume said insurgents in Borno State use hit-and-run tactics and rely on informants within communities to execute attacks. He warned that the security situation is worsened by gaps in intelligence, urging authorities to strengthen surveillance and monitoring capabilities to counter the evolving methods of the attackers.

He also criticised the broader security response, saying security personnel lack adequate equipment, training and motivation to confront insurgents effectively. Ndume called for greater focus on security, noting that recent military operations, including in Malam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area, showed that success is possible when troops are supported with air cover and proper resources.
