We begin with an update on the flooding situation in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Officials from International and National Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and the United Nations led by Mohammed Fall, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, on Saturday visited Maiduguri, the Borno state capital over the devastating floods ravaging the state.
This was disclosed in a press release to journalists on Sunday by the National Information Officer of the UN Information Centre, Oluseyi Soremekun.
According to him, the team met with affected residents, government officials, and the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, to assess the damage and outline immediate support measures.
While announcing a donation of $6 million from the Nigerian humanitarian fund for the victims of the disaster, Mr. Fall promised swift action to alleviate the suffering of displaced families, including the provision of food, clean water, sanitation facilities, and shelter.
