Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says Nigeria’s political elite are responsible for deepening divisions in the country through their personal ambitions.
Makinde spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at the public presentation of ‘Headlines and Soundbites: Media Moments That Defined An Administration’, a book authored by former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
He said ordinary Nigerians already share a consensus on the need for a united country, but argued that divisions are driven by elite narratives based on religion, ethnicity and regional identity.

The governor called for early agreement among stakeholders on how to address Nigeria’s current challenges, stressing that political arrangements must move away from a winner-takes-all approach.
