Makinde Says PDP Facing Difficult Period After Lawal’s Exit

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a difficult period following the defection of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal from the party.

Lawal announced his resignation from the PDP on March 9, leaving Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed as the only governors currently elected on the platform of the party.

Makinde spoke in Abuja on Tuesday during an expanded meeting of the PDP Board of Trustees attended by party leaders and stakeholders. He described the development as a challenging moment for both the party and Nigeria’s democracy.

The governor said the current political climate in the country is unusual but expressed confidence that the party would overcome the situation and move forward.
